The Piano Lesson

Properties Design

The Piano Lesson by August Wilson, directed by Cheryl McFarren, was my first production at Denison University. I served as Properties Designer for this show. However, the most important scenic design element in this play is “The Piano,” which I designed and sculpted.  In the play, the piano is referenced many times. The piano is a visual history of the family featured in the play, having been hand carved by an ancestor specifically to visually tell the story of the family’s history. I was mentored by fine artist, Mathew McFarren.
