Fly by Night

Scenic Design

Fly By Night takes the audience on a year-long odyssey following a trio of young lovers navigating life, love, loss, how the three connect and how we manage when the power goes out. The connecting thread between these human experiences is the ever-present grief of moving through life and how experiencing love also means inevitable loss. (from director Eli Carpenter) The design needed to be modular and work with the other rep shows for the season. Fly by Night has many locations that require scenery, the way I went about achieving this was through pop outs, traps, and pullies. The different settings were like a story book unfolding and the narrative of the show is reminiscing on the lives of these characters, acting as if she (the Narrator) was pushing the story along itself.
